Church History

On Sunday afternoon, March 3, 1963, a group of 47 people met in a Sloan Brothers Building located on Highway 29. That day these people prayerfully organized the Emmanuel Baptist Church with 41 joining by letter and 3 joining by baptism.

The church, led by “Preacher Buddy” Mullinax, met in this building only a few weeks. The present property was found and a down payment of approximately $3,000.00 was paid. On April 7, 1963 the church gathered in a tent on the new property. They worshipped in the tent for several months as it took awhile to raise the $32,000.00 for the 6 acres of land and the 3 bedroom brick house which later became the church parsonage.

In November 1963 the 30′ x 70′ block building was built and for 8 years this was the actual sanctuary. Preacher Buddy Mullinax remained as pastor of the church until November 1965. Then the church called Brother J.D. Dunn who pastored until August 1970. Following this, the church called Brother Roger Clark as pastor and under his leadership the present 400 seat auditorium was built.
